From Black Sea to Danube border: the transformation of port economies in conventional war
Ukrainian ports traffic 2022 (Ukranian official statistics). Author : I. Savchuk
My project is a study of the adaptation of Ukrainian maritime transport to the conditions of development since Russia’s full-scale invasion. For this purpose, I first studied the development of Ukraine’s Black sea ports before the war as conditioned by the country’s export-oriented economy focusing on raw materials such as agricultural and metals and subsequently the impact of the full-scale invasion on these export routes. I question how the development of the fluvial ports on the Danube as an alternative route following the blockade of the Black sea opens a "window of opportunity" for the region. The main result of the research will be the development of a theory of positive changes of seaports during conventional war.
